FAQ

Are your polishes vegan and cruelty free? Yes. Every ingredient in every Hyena Lacquer polish is sourced from suppliers who do not conduct animal testing and do not use animal-derived ingredients. Hyena Lacquer does not test on animals and never will.

What's in your polish? Every polish has a full ingredient list on its product page. All Hyena Lacquer polishes are 10 free -- formulated without DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, xylene, parabens, animal derived ingredients, and acetone. If you have questions about a specific ingredient, reach out at hello@hyenalacquer.com.

Will the color look exactly like it does on my screen? Probably not, and that's not a flaw, it's just reality. Colors vary based on your screen settings, lighting, skin tone, and nail prep. The photos on each product page were taken in natural and artificial light to give you the most accurate representation we can, but your results will be your own. That's part of it.

Do your polishes stain? A few of them might leave a slight residue on removal. It's noted on the product page for any polish that has that tendency. An extra pass with a fresh remover pad takes care of it. Staining is weirdly personal. Every nail is different, every polish is different, and sometimes the two get a little too attached. Use a good base coat, especially with highly pigmented shades.

How many coats do I need? It depends on the polish and your preference. Some are generous in one coat, most build beautifully in two, and a few love a third. Check the product page for each polish, the photos show what's possible.

Do I need a base coat and top coat? Yes. Always. A base coat protects your nails and helps the polish adhere. A top coat seals everything in and extends wear. Skipping them is your choice but don't blame the polish.

How do I apply a magnetic polish? Apply your first coat and give it a quick magnetization. On your second coat, work one nail at a time and hold the magnet as close to the nail as possible without touching it for a full minute. Then seal with top coat and magnetize again for another full minute, this one matters most. Some people skip straight to magnetizing the top coat and that works too. Start here and experiment. You might find something that works better for you.

My polish has thickened. What do I do? Add a drop or two of polish thinner and shake well. Do not use acetone or nail polish remover, it will destroy the formula. Store your polish upright in a cool, dark place to slow thickening over time.

How should I store my polish? Cool, dark, and upright. Away from heat and direct sunlight. Shake every so often if you're not using it regularly.

Can colors fade over time? Yes, pigments can fade, especially with UV exposure. Store your polish out of direct sunlight and it'll last longer. We can't guarantee against fading after extended periods.

My polish is handmade — will it vary batch to batch? Slightly, yes. Every batch is mixed by hand in small quantities. We do our best to keep things consistent but minor variations are part of the handmade territory.
